The airline canceled hundreds of flights before the winter storm. Forecasters predict strong winds and more than a foot of snow in the northeast.
According to the National Weather Service, a snowstorm warning was issued from Maryland to Maine on Friday.
More than 1,200 US flights were canceled on Saturday, according to flight tracker FlightAware.Based in New York JetBlue AirlinesThe airline, which operates major flights outside of Boston, has reduced Saturday’s schedule by 40% and nearly 330 flights less than other airlines. At Boston Logan International Airport, flight 475 was canceled on Saturday. This is over 70% of the schedule.
Airlines in recent years may cancel flights a few days before the storm to avoid getting stuck for customers and crew.
The carrier said it would abandon the fare difference for customers affected by the storm. Most airlines had already removed the standard economy ticket change fees in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic repeatedly upset travelers’ plans.
