Denver — Experts Kill 10 people in a Colorado supermarket Attorneys said in a court hearing on Friday that it was mentally incompetent to stand in court for now earlier this year.

Ahmad al-Aliwi Alyssa, 22, was accused of firing at the busy King Supers in the college town of Boulder in March, including police officers, shoppers, and Olympic hopeful distance runners. Killed a clerk.

District attorney Michael Dougherty said four doctors determined that Alyssa was mentally incapable of participating in the proceedings. He demanded that Alyssa be sent to a state mental hospital for treatment.

Dougherty did not reveal why experts decided that Alissa was not competent. Alyssa’s defense lawyer, Kathryn Herold, said Friday that her client had a “serious” mental illness, but did not provide details.

After Dougherty revealed the results of the test, Judge Ingrid Bakke determined that Alissa was incompetent and ordered him to be sent to a mental hospital.

The ruling suspends virtually all proceedings in the case indefinitely. Bakke scheduled another hearing on March 15, 2022, almost a year after the shooting, to discuss whether there was progress in Alyssa’s treatment and to decide what to do next.

Earlier assessments showed that Alyssa was not mentally competent, but the prosecutor asked for a second assessment.

After Alyssa’s lawyers questioned his abilities based on evaluations by their own experts, Bucke ordered an initial evaluation.

Capability issues also delayed the prosecution of a man accused of killing three people in a 2015 attack on a planned parent’s clinic in Colorado Springs.

Robert Deer was repeatedly found to be incapable of proceeding with his state proceedings. Federal prosecutors subsequently charged him in 2019, but capacity issues continue to postpone the proceedings in federal court.
