An 18-year-old man accompanied by two boys allegedly robbed and shot an acquaintance in a Murrieta park, authorities said.

Leon Boswell of Murrieta was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 14, on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, assault with a firearm and conspiracy. He was being held on a $2 million bail amount at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

The two boys, whose identities were not disclosed because of their ages, were arrested for similar offenses and booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall.

Lt. Phil Gomez of the Murrieta Police Department said that at about 1 a.m. Tuesday the suspects met the victim, who they were acquainted with and allegedly intended to rob, in Alta Murrieta Sports Park, at 39755 Alta Murrieta Drive.

Moments later, Boswell pulled out a handgun and shot the victim, inflicting a non-life-threatening wound, Gomez said.

Multiple witnesses called 911 as the suspects ran out of the park and fled in a car, the lieutenant said.

Patrol officers spotted the vehicle on Los Alamos Road and detained the suspects, Gomez said.

Gomez said the gun used in the attack was seized.
