$200,000 approved for study of Highway 90 corridor in Horry County – Florence, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) — Approved to fund research to address issues along Highway 90 Grand Strand Area Transport Survey

With a $ 200,000 survey, GSATS can identify the most pressing needs and determine how and how to implement them in stages.

This study focuses on North Myrtle Beach Highways 90-501 Business 9.

“What we are trying to do is tackle growth areas, which are obvious growth areas,” said Mark Howeller, Deputy Managing Director of the Government of the Wakkamau Regional Council.

GSATS Vice-Chair Kevin Hardee said this could not be done on its own and requires feedback from county leaders, the Highway 90 Task Force, and community members.

“Infrastructure is not keeping up with development,” said Felicia Soto, who lives in the 90 highway area.

Soto has previously held two Highway 90 Community Meetings in the past.

“Growth is what’s happening,” she said. “If people really think they’re going to stop this growth, it’s not. What do we do now that it’s happening because it’s happening? What do we do? Where do you start? “

Holly County Assemblyman Johnny Vort said that with the money, he could start with smaller projects such as changing lanes, installing traffic lights, and changing intersections.

For larger, longer-term projects, the GSATS Highway 90 survey needs to be done, which takes about a year. These long-term projects, perhaps expanding 90, will take years.

“It usually takes eight to ten years from the conception stage to the planning stage to the construction stage, with the right time frame,” Hoeweler said.

Mr. Soto said: “Ultimately, we all want the same thing. Unfortunately, the way the inhabitants want. I want it yesterday …. That’s not happening.”

Meanwhile, Mr Soto said residents should participate. “You want to make a difference. Don’t wait for one person to speak. You also need to be voice. You have to stand up and attend a county council meeting,” Soto said. rice field.

Hardy said there will be future community meetings as the investigation progresses.
