Spartanberg, South Carolina (WPSA) – Two people have been accused of drugs after traffic stopped in Spartanberg on Tuesday night.

According to the Sparthamberg Police Department, police officers carried out a traffic stop at 6:50 pm at 600 blocks on Brawley Street due to a non-functional backseat brake light.

The Dodge truck was pulled and police officers asked for documents. The driver was identified as Randy Peterson, 55, from Chesney, and the passenger was Charollet Mayfield, 46, from Cowpens.

According to police, Peterson had a driver’s license but no vehicle registration card.

According to the case report, Peterson told police officers various reasons why he was in the area.

Police officers said Peterson appeared to be leaving the high-drug area, so he called for K-9’s help for “free air rigidity.”

When K-9 arrived at the scene, K-9 warned police officers that there were drugs in and around the truck.

During the search, police officers found a small medicine bottle containing three small transparent buggies containing a transparent crystal-like substance inside. It weighed about 1.2 grams.

Officers arrested Peterson and Mayfield for possession of methamphetamine.

According to the incident report, police searched Peterson and found a small bag containing 0.7 grams of clear crystalline material. No medicine was found when he was searching Mayfield.

While waiting for the tow truck, police officers found a small bag of 3.3 grams of clear crystal-like substance in the bag on the ground near the truck.

When asked who the transparent crystal-like substance belongs to, Peterson and Mayfield both denied possession.

Both Peterson and Mayfield were charged with having a drug schedule. Patterson was also charged with drunk driving – the first breach.

Peterson and Mayfield are currently being held at the Spartanberg County Detention Center.
