Robins, NC (WNCN) —Four people were injured in an accidental shooting at a turkey shooting competition on Saturday night in Moore County, NC, officials said.

According to the agent, a fifth person was injured during the incident after falling into the fire pit.

The incident was reported shortly after Robins, off Cummings Road in northern Moore County, after 8:20 pm, according to Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Richard Manes. He fired after the shotgun was dropped and described an incident that was “unintentional” and “totally accidental.”

Three members of a family, a mother, a father, and their little son, were taken to Pinehurst’s First Health Moore Regional for treatment. A 12-year-old girl, unrelated to the other three victims, was airlifted to Chapel Hill to treat a gunshot wound on her foot, Manes said.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, Manes said.

Women near the shooting fell into the fire pit and were burned, but they were not considered serious, Manes said.

“It’s certainly a coincidence — there’s no criminal intent,” Manes said.
